ABOUT LASER VISION CORRECTION

Nothing is more important than finding a good doctor to perform your laser surgery – except finding one who won’t. We’ll determine the best solution, even if it isn’t LASIK.

Imagine waking up and not fumbling for your glasses to see the alarm clock or tripping over something on the way to the bathroom to put in your contact lenses. At the John-Kenyon American Eye Institute we have a solution for your vision problem and can help free you from your glasses and contact lenses with our completely blade-free, laser-only LASIK surgery.

When you meet with the doctor for your complimentary eye evaluation we will work with you to determine which procedure- LASIK, Advance Surface Ablation, or NearVision CK – is right for you. For decades we have been helping people see better. And now there are more options than ever to help you live without being dependent on your glasses or contact lenses.

Our doctors have performed thousands of laser vision surgeries and are dedicated to using the most advanced technology available.

  • State-of-the-Art BLADE FREE IntraLASIK

More than 17 million people in the U.S. have had LASIK, a procedure that reshapes the cornea with a laser to treat nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) or astigmatism. The ideal LASIK candidate is over 18 years old, has healthy corneas and a relatively stable prescription. The procedure only takes a few minutes per eye and patients typically have no discomfort during or after. Patients can also experience vastly improved vision within minutes.

The John-Kenyon American Eye Institute offers IntraLASIK, the safest, most effective and advanced LASIK available. Our IntraLASIK experts have performed thousands of procedures and are one of an elite group offering blade-free IntraLASIK with the advanced IntraLase laser combined with the ALLEGRETTO WAVE ® Eye-Q laser. The Intralase laser replaces the hand-held blade used in the first step of traditional LASIK procedures, greatly reducing the risks associated with the hand-held blade. Even better, clinical surveys have shown IntraLASE produces more 20/20 or better results. In fact, the U.S. Military and NASA recently approved the blade-free IntraLASIK for their pilots and astronauts.

For the second step of the procedure, our expert doctors will use the state-of-the-art ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Eye-Q laser. The ALLEGRETTO laser is the fastest laser system in the U.S. with 400 laser bursts per second so it takes only seconds to correct one eye. This technology customizes treatment to the individual patient, their prescription and cornea, allowing for more precision and accuracy than ever before. The Wavefront Optimized™ treatment works with the eye’s natural curvature to preserve quality of vision and is approved by the FDA to improve night-vision and reduce glare.

  • ADVANCED SURFACE ABLATION

Advanced Surface Ablation (ASA) may be an option for those who are not candidates for LASIK and is ideal for patients who have thin or irregular corneas. ASA can be a good choice for those who play contact sports, those with careers or career aspirations in aviation, or those with severe dry eyes or autoimmune diseases.

The ASA procedure is similar to LASIK, but only takes one step where the doctor uses the state-of-the-art ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Eye-Q to reshape the cornea. ASA patients may experience slightly more discomfort than LASIK patients and the results are not as immediate. You may have blurred vision for about five days following the procedure, but optimal vision is usually reached within one to three months. Within three months ASA and IntraLASIK patients report equal vision results.

  • NearVision CK

The typical NearVision CK patient is over age 40 and has experienced good vision up until that age but is now having trouble with their close vision. This makes it ideal for Baby Boomers who are tired of constantly reaching for their reading glasses to read the paper or look at a menu.

The procedure uses a controlled release of radio frequency energy to change the shape of the cornea.  This creates a safe and predictable change to the surface of the cornea which helps improve close-up vision. In FDA clinical studies, after the procedure 98 percent of patients were able to read newspaper-size print without reading glasses.

NearVision CK is minimally invasive and takes only a few minutes to perform. The John-Kenyon American Eye Institute uses the latest advancement, called LightTouch which allows the surgeon to apply very little pressure to the eye. This makes it even more effective and comfortable for patients.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING AND AFTER LASER VISION CORRECTION?

All refractive procedures are done on an outpatient basis and the actual procedures take just a few minutes and only require a topical anesthetic, meaning you will not be asleep during the surgery. You will receive detailed information on how to care for your eyes while they heal after your surgery.

Please read about the different procedures and talk to your physician for more details on what is right for you.
