Diabetic Retinopathy
JKAEI is a member of the Diabetic Clinical Research Network (DRCR). This network is funded by the National Institutes of Health and through private industry. There are approximately 150 participating sites in both private practice and academic centers. We are one of the charter members of this organization and one of the top ten recruitment sites in the country. The various sites submit data via the internet to the coordinating center. In this manner, data from numerous sites can be obtained and rapidly analyzed in order to carry out studies quickly and efficiently. The DRCR has garnered praise from the National Institutes of Health and private industry for its performance to date. It is the goal ofthe DRCR that virtually all patients with diabetic retinopathy will be able to participate in a clinical trial. Already, the results of the network’s initial clinical trials are changing for the better the way we treat patients with diabetic retinopathy.
