John-Kenyon American Eye Institute helps you see clearly for life

Typically, when one is diagnosed with a medical condition his doctor prescribes a treatment to the problem – not a cure. For instance, when diagnosed with high blood pressure or diabetes, the treatment usually includes several new medications, exercise regimens, and dietary changes. Of course, the treatments are meant to prevent further damage from the disease process, rather than to eradicate the condition. What makes my field of medicine, Ophthalmic Surgery, so rewarding is that we actually cure conditions, and often the patient is functioning better than he or she has in decades or even the whole life.

At the John-Kenyon American Eye Institute, my partners and I perform cataract surgery every day of the week and provide our patients with better vision after surgery than they often have ever experienced. In the past, cataract surgery had one goal:  to remove the cataract to provide better vision with glasses after surgery. Now, we have two goals:  safely remove the visually disabling cataract and provide better vision after surgery without glasses for near, intermediate, and distance vision. New technology and recent advancements in microsurgical techniques allows us to measure precisely the dimensions of the human eye and use advanced intraocular lens implants to provide clear vision, without the need for reading glasses, bifocal and trifocal glasses and contact lenses.

The advanced intraocular lens implants are called the ReZoom (Advanced Medical Optics) and the ReSTOR (Alcon) lenses. In fact, we are getting such incredible results with the advanced intraocular lens implants that many of our patients choose to have this procedure for the sole purpose of getting rid of their reading glasses and bifocals. This procedure is called PRELEX and is an excellent method of restoring functional vision for reading up close and seeing clearly at a distance.

PRELEX and Cataract surgery are outpatient procedures, take 10-15 minutes, do not require stitches, and typically our patients see well that night or the next day. The other good news is that the lenses will not need to be replaced and once the eye is healed the vision will be stable for the long term. Imagine being able to read the newspaper, shave, watch television, drive, or see the alarm clock in the morning – all without your glasses.

Of course, not everyone is an ideal candidate for this procedure and a comprehensive eye exam is needed by one of our experienced surgeons to determine if you are a good candidate for these lenses. Whether you seek treatment of serious vision disorders, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), Diabetic Eye Disease or you just wish to get rid of your eyeglasses with refractive surgery, our commitment at the John-Kenyon American Eye Institute is to provide you with the most advanced state-of-the-art treatments available.
