Physicians: Dr. Howard S. Lazarus

Dr. Howard Lazarus is a leading national and regional retinal specialist treating diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment and other retinal disorders. He has served on advisory boards of leading pharmaceutical companies that help to define treatment of retinal diseases, has authored numerous publications and been the principal investigator on more than two dozen clinical research studies. Dr. Lazarus is the first doctor in the region to use the PASCAL laser and 25-gauge vitrectomy, cutting-edge treatments for retinal diseases.
Dr. Lazarus completed a two-year retinal fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital where he was the recipient of the prestigious Heed and Heed-Knapp fellowships. He is a graduate of the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and served his residency at Bethesda Eye Institute at St. Louis University School of Medicine where he was chief resident. Dr. Lazarus is a member of the Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network, is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and maintains active memberships in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Louisville Ophthalmology Society and the Kentucky and Indiana Medical Associations.
