Retina Center
- The retina is a series of light-sensitive cells lining the back of the eye, reacting to the incoming light and sending a record of it to the brain via the optic nerve like the film in a camera. Damage to the retina can have a huge impact on your ability to see and perceive the world around you.
- We’re proud to have Dr. Howard Lazarus, a leading national and regional retinal specialist, on staff treating patients with diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment and other retinal disorders.
JOHN-KENYON RETINA CENTER
To understand how the eye works, imagine a camera. Light enters through the cornea – the clear outside cover that functions like the camera’s lens. The amount of light coming in is controlled by the pupil, which opens and closes like a camera shutter. The light focuses on the retina, a series of light-sensitive cells lining the back of the eye. The retina is like the camera film, reacting to the incoming light and sending a record of it to the brain via the optic nerve.
