Asim Piracha, MD, is a board-certified cataract and refractive surgeon, credited with performing the first all-laser LASIK surgery in the state of Kentucky in 2003. A native of West Virginia, Dr. Piracha comes from a medical family; his father, brother and sister are all doctors. He graduated from West Virginia University School of Medicine with top honors and was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, a national medical honor society. He completed a highly specialized residency at the University of Kentucky where he was selected Senior Chief Resident in ophthalmology. Afterwards, he completed his fellowship at the University of Minnesota where he specialized in cornea, refractive and anterior segment surgery.
Dr. Piracha chose ophthalmology because of the amazing impact it has on people’s lives when their vision is restored. A recognized leader in his field, Dr. Piracha has served as the President of the American Board of Eye Surgery, a founding member of the Refractive Surgery Alliance, and continues to serve on the board of the American College of Eye Surgeons. Here in Kentucky, Dr. Piracha was appointed to the Kentucky Board of Licensure by the Governor, serving from 2011 to 2015. He is also an associate professor at the University of Louisville’s Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. He is dedicated to remaining on the forefront of medical advancements and regularly speaks at conferences and publishes articles in ophthalmologic trade journals.
Dr. Piracha currently serves as the Doctor Recruitment Chair for the EyeCare Partners Medical Executive Board and performs refractive and cataract surgery in Louisville, Kentucky and southern Indiana at John-Kenyon. When he’s not at the office, you’ll find Dr. Piracha hitting the trails of a local park on his mountain bike or spending time with his wife and two children.
