Whether you’re preparing for your complimentary evaluation or you’re researching ahead of your LASIK procedure, here are a couple tips on how to prepare.
Please don’t hesitate to give us a call at 1.800.DIAL.EYE if you have any questions!
Since contact lenses modify the shape of the cornea, they should be swapped for glasses leading up to your evaluation and procedure to allow your eyes return to their natural shape. Soft contact lenses will need to be removed at least 3 days prior to evaluations. If you sleep in your lenses or wear TORIC lenses, we ask that you remove them at least 7 days ahead of your evaluation. Those who wear gas perm or hard lenses will need to remove their contacts 21 days prior to the evaluation.
Caffeine can cause your eyes to feel dry, which can make it a little more difficult for you to fully relax after receiving LASIK. We ask that you avoid caffeine at least 4 hours prior to surgery and recommend that you drink 5-6 glasses of non-alcoholic, caffeine-free fluids a day, beginning several days before the procedure. Taking an Omega-3 supplement and using lubricating eye drops may be recommended a few days prior to surgery and for up to three months post-surgery.
Although you’ll be able to see an immediate improvement post-LASIK, you will not be able to drive yourself home. Ask a responsible friend or family member to be your chauffeur.
The day of your surgery, steer clear of makeup, perfume, lotions, cologne or aftershave.
